cell reversal caused by older battery

If you keep one battery that is old, it will reach its critical point faster than the newer batteries. Eventually, it will reach a point called "cell reversal" where it actually acts as a load upon the rest of the battery therefore causing a cascading effect and much more rapid discharge of the remaining batteries in the system.
