Gas Electric Hybrid

Would This Durango Make a Good Gas Electric Hybrid?

Would This Durango Make a Good Gas Electric Hybrid?

I have this 2002 Dodge Durango (4.7L V8 4X2) and I'm considering converting it to a gas electric hybrid to improve its fuel economy.

My idea is to put DC electric motor between AT and rear differential to help V8 engine to improve fuel economy. I don't know if similar thing ever been done by anyone. What do you think?

Hi, George!
Yep, it's a pretty good idea. Have a look at EMIS - Engine Motor Interface System - by Netgain Motors, the makers of the WarP electric motors so common in electric cars.

They've come up with a way to make a gas electric hybrid out of an ordinary rear-wheel-drive gas hog with an automatic transmission. The electric motor works with your gas engine to help you get better gas mileage.

Read the EMIS FAQ for more information, including where to find a dealer near you (Netgain products are only available through authorized dealers).

Cheers,
Lynne
