36 volt car running on 40 volts ?
by: Anonymous

Hi I have a 36 volt ezgo I wanna know can it run on 5 batteries that would be for a 48 volt ? I am not running 6 only 5 . So it's like 40 volts for a 36 volt cart . Is that doable?

It depends on your charger and your controller. Here's a video about it if you like, and there's more videos as the conversion goes along - this is just the first in the series.

36 VS 40 volts
by: Anonymous

I have repowered 2 36 volt club cars with 4 6 volts and 2 eight volts for a total of 40 volts. A typical charger for a 12 volt car battery charges at about 14 volts, and the alt charges it at about 13.8 volts. After a fresh charge your cart batteries (36 volt pack) should measure above 36, maybe about 28-39, and the charger is likely putting out about 41-42, so in short it IS possible to step up the voltage without doing anything else, it works, I've done it.

Excellent info

I was looking for a way to replacing 2 6 volt batteries with 1 12 volt.
can this be done and how do you wire it.

You have to keep the same size batteries in the whole pack, if that's what you're asking. All 6 volts or all 12 volts (or all 8 volts). Why? Because voltage comes to equilibrium in a string of batteries wired together, so the 12v batteries will overcharge the 6v batteries.

This is why you replace all the batteries in your pack at once, too. The new ones have a higher voltage than the old ones, even if its just a little bit.
