hybrid cars by: Grandalf
what would happen if instead you put a petrol powered electric generator in place of a petrol engine ? I would have thought this would give much greater range per gallon of petrol than the present hybrid systems ?

Amps needed by: Anonymous
I see that you recommend around 120volt at 500amp I was considering using 12volt 200amp deep cycle batteries which weigh around 60kilos so to get 120/500 I will need 25 batteries and as you should only discharge to 50% that means I will need 50 batteries at around 3 metric tonnes in weight I better consider some slightly heaver gauge RSJs to take the weight.

technical NO how by: Roscoe
I have a three cylinder 25 hp. diesel engine that can turn a 20 kw generator at only 1000 rpms. through a PTO. Why can't that small engine be used on an electric vehicle similar to the Tesla to extend it's distance dramatically. The diesel engine can idle at 1000 rpms for about 20 hours on 5 gallons of fuel. By using a voltage regulator you could have the engine cut on and off automatically. If you were at a location where you couldn't plug your vehicle into an outlet for recharging, the diesel engine would cut in and charge the batteries in a few hours and at a lot less cost than electricity.
