So, why can't an appropriate sized generator be placed in a car to generate enough power to continuously run the electric drive motors and other functions requiring electricity?

Solar Powered Vehicles

I was wondering, what type of storage bank do these EVs use? I was doing the calculating and an electric motor from siemens rated at 50 HP and 230 volts single phase/460 second phase, I got that around 37,000 watts! (that right?) that's like 15 Amp Seconds on a typical 105 AH car battery. Now I haven't a clue really how this stuff works. I am very green on the subject. Reason I was looking into this stuff is I was wondering how feasible a solar powered dc driven boat would be, given today's tech. It's not looking very good! The ratio of weight to support the size of the boat needed to collect sunlight seems to overrun the size of the motors needed to haul it. In other words, the motor needs more power than it can push through the water. Well, I hope this gets better before I retire ;)
