Ferrari Electric Car Conversion

by Madi

What's the best electric motor I can use to get the same acceleration out of my Ferrari when I convert it to electric? And which batteries?

Sigh, Madi -
Forget diamonds; a Ferrari is a girl's best friend.

Now, if I had a Ferrari parked in the garage and was itching to grow my own Tesla - uh, would that be a Tesla-rossa? - I'd call up the nice folks at Metric Mind, describe my itch in technicolor detail, wax poetic about the current (or former, as the case may be) performance of the Ferrari, and flash that wad of cash.

But I didn't answer your question! Which motor do you need for familiar performance? A 3-phase AC motor, similar to the one that's in this Lotus conversion, and a whole lotta light Lithium batteries.

Regards,
Lynne

Electric Sports Car Motors

by Faisal

What is the best electric motors to make a electric sports car?

Hi, Faisal -
Of course, this is a matter of some debate; )

Tesla Motors uses a 3-phase AC induction motor in their Model S and X, and a next-generation AC permanent magnet motor in the Model 3.

Paul Liddle of CoolGreenCar.Net uses NetGain's WarP 11 in his top-quality, high-performance electric Porsche 959 conversion.

Your call, I suppose. Either way, LiFePO4 EV batteries, of course; )

Lynne

2011 Update: I have a new favorite motor for sexy electric sports cars: the HPEVS AC-50.
